South America: Lowlands and Grasslands
South America has a lot of fascinating places to discover, and I often suggest it to my clients. One of the most unusual places is the Atacama Desert in Chile. It is possible to combine that with a visit to Patagonia, an area shared by both Chile and Argentina. Patagonia has a desert region, lowlands, grasslands and even a part of the Andes Mountain Range.
A very different eco-system beckons along the Amazon River. Here you can visit small villages and witness a lifestyle that has remained largely unchanged for centuries. And on a visit to Machu Picchu in Peru, you can see one of the best preserved ancient cities, and then hike through the Sacred Valley and marvel at the advanced agricultural systems of the ancient Incan civilization.
For sophistication and culture, Buenos Aires is wonderful. It has a very European feeling along with its lively Latin vibe. It makes a great combination with Ushuaia, at the tip of the continent, which is a jumping off for adventures and visits to Antarctica, which one of the world’s ultimate frontiers.
