My Travel Agent Life
I started my career in 1987 as an event planner for American Express. After a decade of that, I really felt like I needed a change, so I left in 1997 to shift into the area that’s always been my true passion – travel. I joined Tzell in 1998, and 20 years later I’m still here, because it’s a great place to work and I love what I do.
The first trips I booked at Tzell were for my corporate clients, and they’re still a big part of what I do every day. I’ve booked trips for property managers, sports teams and finance managers, and right now I’m also planning travel for a school district in Orlando, Florida, managing travel for teachers, conferences and other groups.
I expanded into booking leisure travel in 2003 and have been enjoying it ever since, in part because every trip is different from the last one. Sometimes it can just mean booking a trip with the kids to Cancun, and other times it can mean something much more immersive, like the cultural and culinary trip to Sicily that I booked for a couple on their honeymoon. It was 10 days long and they wanted an experiential trip, so Sicily really was the perfect choice for them. They went on wine tasting trips, took cooking classes and toured the markets that you run into when you’re wandering the streets there. They even took a fishing trip and then went back to the hotel restaurant with their catch and cooked it with the restaurant staff. It was a unique, memorable trip for them, and I loved booking it.
I’ve travelled to Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, France, Argentina, the U.K., Amsterdam, and I’ve been to every single Caribbean island and all three Hawaiian Islands. I also went on an Alaskan cruise. I draw on my own travel experiences when I book a trip for a client. I assume that they want to see the world, broaden their horizons and come home feeling like they had an experience that was truly unforgettable.

So instead of choosing a favorite trip, I’ll pick my most memorable one, which would have to be my trip to Tuscany. My father was born there, and he grew up in the ...
